Ronin Network Records 1.8M Active Daily Gamers

Ronin Network, the game-focused Ethereum sidechain, has recorded a significant surge in active daily gamers. According to on-chain data from the blockchain analytics platform Token Terminal, the Ronin mainnet recorded a daily active user base of more than 1.8 million, second only to Tron, which has over 1.9 million daily active users.

With its daily active user base, Ronin surpasses blockchain networks like Solana, Ethereum, Base, and Bitcoin. The metric is driven mainly by the games accessible within its ecosystem. Since its mainnet debut in February 2021, the Ronin network has captured the attention of gamers and game developers, blurring the barriers between Web2 and Web3 gaming.

At the forefront of games played on the Ronin network is its flagship game, Axie Infinity, a Web3 game created by Sky Mavis that allows users to own cute creatures called Axies in the form of NFTs. Other games that have taken the spotlight on the Ronin mainnet include the online farming game Pixels, the MMORPG survival game Lumiterra, and the card-battling game Apeiron.

Notably topping the trading volume charts among these games is Lumiterra, recording over a 1,700% increase within 24 hours. The surge comes after the Ronin Network announced the Lumiterra CBT launch on its X page on August 5th.

Despite its impressive metrics, the Ronin network has had its challenges. On August 6th, the protocol faced a security breach, during which over $10 million worth of crypto assets was stolen from the network’s bridge. The Ronin team halted the bridge operations and contacted the actors behind the hack. Still, the firm noted that its game-loving users are unaffected by whether or not the funds are returned.

The project revealed that white hat hackers were behind the attack. These entities deliberately hack a protocol to identify vulnerabilities and communicate them to the project’s development team. According to the project’s bug bounty program, the hacker has returned $10 million worth of ETH to Ronin and received $500,000 worth of crypto at the time of writing.

With its increasing user base and strengthened finances, Ronin shows its resilience and commitment to building one of the most extensive gaming ecosystems harnessing blockchain technology. This could bring more Web2 gamers into the non-fungible realm.
